CONDOLEEZZA RICE Part 2: PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Condoleezza Rice (view chart) has had an impressive career in the public arena as well as having demonstrated her talent and discipline at a very high level in secondary areas as an ice skater and pianist. However, even with such a busy life, one naturally wonders why she has never married. These days, many powerful women both marry and have a career.

Ms. Rice is, as discussed in Part 1, both extremely determined and very emotionally committed to whatever path she chooses. However, her VENUS in the sign of SCORPIO, while showing deep and intense feelings, is also RETROGRADE (in apparent backward motion), in her birth chart. Any retrograde VENUS shows a form of introversion and self-protection in areas of romance and relationships, a type of caution or even lack of confidence. Her VENUS did move DIRECT (into forward motion) around the time she was twenty years old. Presumably, it was at this time that her artistic growth expanded and she may have had a significant personal relationship.

Condoleezza has other indications of personal reserve which increased her chance of remaining single and pursuing a career. VENUS and MARS are the two “sexual” planets. Each one of us has both VENUS and MARS in our chart. VENUS shows to what and to whom we are attracted as well as how we attract others. MARS indicates the manner in which we take action in both our most private lives and public endeavors.

MARS in Condi’s chart falls in a complex pattern with some of her other planets. MARS in AQUARIUS shows that she acts on the basis of her fixed ideas. MARS in a difficult (square) relationship to her SATURN (self-disciplined but also repressive) blocks the easy expression of her desires but which can be sublimated into her intellectual life and drive to power. MARS also is in a discordant relationship (quincunx) to her MOON in CANCER. The MARS-MOON-SATURN pattern displays two sides of her which do not blend easily. On one hand, she is deeply emotional (MOON in CANCER) and deeply loyal (MOON trine SATURN). On the other hand, she operates based on her ideas, her intellect (MARS in AQUARIUS). Soft and deep one side, she is cool and detached on the other.

Most of us have contradictory parts to our personalities and character. What is important is that we manage to use our personal patterns of talents and tendencies to the most happy and productive ends. Condoleezza Rice is a truly fascinating person, one who will be especially interesting to follow in her public life in the second Bush administration.
