Hostages and Nuclear Ambitions

On March 23, Iran captured 15 British sailors in disputed territorial waters off the coast of Iran and Iraq. Iran and Britain now appear more likely to resolve this issue by diplomatic means.

This recent crisis continues the pattern of volatility between Iran and the international community. The U.N. has sanctioned Iran for its continued nuclear development and President Bush had declared Iran to be part of the “Axis of Evil.” Now everyone is scared because of Iran’s critical position in the world oil markets and its escalating nuclear capabilities.

Among the variety of astrological patterns at play are:

On April 19th, SATURN in LEO stations Directly on Iran’s ASCENDANT (view chart). Iran’s leadership will take a determined stand against any outside influences regardless of consequences.

PLUTO and JUPITER (both in SAGITTARIUS) move into Retrograde motion, hopefully averting a serious international crisis. As PLUTO (the planet of power) and JUPITER (the planet of expansion) go into Retrograde motion, the self righteous exertion of force may diminish. Indeed, many felt a drain in energy as PLUTO Retrograded to its station March 31.

Among the many astrological patterns occurring in April, a very dangerous flashpoint occurs on or near April 29. Aggressive MARS conjoins unpredictable URANUS at 17 PISCES. On Iran’s chart, this has special significance because MARS-URANUS exactly conjoins Iran’s vulnerable SOUTH NODE, exacerbating a feeling of victimization or betrayal.

For many the end of April looks volatile; for Iran it could be a critical turning point.
