IRAN’S NUCLEAR AMBITIONS
Escalating Tensions in the Middle East

The U.S. and other key allies fear that Iran may soon have the capability to produce nuclear weapons, and might even use them. Iran is threatening to end all voluntary co-operation with the UN nuclear inspectors if it is referred to the UN Security Council for possible sanctions.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was proclaimed on April 1, 1979 (view chart) in a radio broadcast by Ayatollah Khomeini.

Iran’s chart has the SUN in ARIES in the 9th house, describing a country devoted to religion and fiercely independent. As Michael Wolfstar says: “The Sun, symbolizing the national leadership, is blessed with a divine righteousness by virtue of a trine to Neptune, while the Sun opposite Pluto shows an awareness of powerful enemies.” In addition,, NEPTUNE is associated with oil, another major source of Middle East tension.

One particular degree connects the charts of the U.S. (view chart), Iran and President Bush (view chart): 18 degrees of LIBRA. Iran’s PLUTO (the planet of ultimate power as well as the planet most associated with nuclear energy) exactly conjoins the U.S. Progressed MARS (military) at this degree. Therefore the U.S. military fears a threat from Iran. Adding to this scenario is the fact that President Bush’s JUPITER (expansive energy) is at 18 degrees of LIBRA, indicating his karmic connection to U.S.-Iran relations.

During 2006, the planet NEPTUNE (planet of fantasy and imagination) will be transiting Iran’s 7th cusp of allies and open enemies. NEPTUNE’S influence will make Iran confused about its alliances and victimized by others.

Simultaneously, throughout 2006, NEPTUNE will be in positive aspect (trining) 18 degrees of LIBRA, the crucial degree discussed above which connects the U.S. and Iran. Because Neptune’s influence is so nebulous, whether in harmonious or tense aspect, uncertainty will continue to prevail in U.S.-Iran relations.

Of course, there are many other players on this international scene with many different perspectives as well as many other astrological configurations unfolding. In future articles, we’ll continue to look at more of the players involved in this Middle East drama.
