LIBBY INDICTED by FITZGERALD
Rove Twisting in the Wind, Bush & Cheney Shaken

"I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, was indicted by a federal jury on five felony charges of lying to investigators and misleading the grand jury in the C.I.A. leak case, deepening the air of political crisis afflicting the White House while leaving many questions unanswered" (New York Times lead story today).

Karl Rove, President Bush's "senior political advisor and deputy chief of staff," (known by some as "Bush's brain") was warned earlier by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald that he was in "serious legal jeopardy". However, Rove was not indicted but he is still under investigation. The White House had been in a state of suspense and crisis. What's next?

I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was born on August 22,1950 in Hartford, CT (time unknown) (view chart).

He has a strong chart with four of his planets in their own signs: SUN in LEO, MERCURY in VIRGO, MARS in SCORPIO and JUPITER in PISCES.

His SUN is conjunct the "Royal Star", the FIXED STAR REGULUS, at 29 degrees of LEO. This star has been famous since ancient times as the royal star of kings. This makes him even more powerful and one who feels he should be in command.

VENUS (pleasure, beauty, and attraction) and PLUTO (transformative energy) are also in LEO. This man has a lot of pride. LEO is the sign of FIXED FIRE, representing energetic determination and usually connected to someone with a big Ego. Although we don't know the time of his birth, his MOON is somewhere in the last 10 degrees of SAGITTARIUS, which blends another FIRE sign with LEO but makes him more free-wheeling and flexible, ready to take a gamble or to "wing it," so to speak.

The SUN opposes JUPITER, inclining him to reach for broad influence and sometimes even to overreach. The SUN is in difficult aspect (semi-square) to NEPTUNE. This indicates some problem with Neptunian issues which can range from imagination to deception - he being on either the giving or receiving end of a deception.

Resourceful, innovative and ambitious would describe his GRAND TRINE of three planets in the emotional and intuitive WATER signs: MARS in intense SCORPIO, URANUS in CANCER, and JUPITER in PISCES. A GRAND WATER TRINE can be positive, but it can also get one in trouble by allowing the individual to be swept away by his own feelings.

JUPITER is also Retrograde, diminishing and internalizing JUPITER in PISCES' compassionate and expansive energy. A difficult aspect between MARS and VENUS (square) indicates that his timing in romantic life may be "off". There is an inborn tension, which might carry over into other relationships.

MERCURY (planet of the mind) in VIRGO makes him very analytical, and conjunct SATURN (structure or stricture) in VIRGO creates a very disciplined work ethic. MERCURY is in tense relationship to his playful MOON in SAGITTARIUS. MERCURY at 26 VIRGO, close to his NODAL AXIS of VIRGO-PISCES shows that his intellect is tightly connected to his destiny.

What got Libby into such trouble? URANUS (breakdowns, break-ups or breakthroughs) was in the earliest degrees of PISCES both in the Spring of 2003 and then again in the Spring of 2004. URANUS began to energize Libby's WATER GRAND TRINE of MARS-URANUS-JUPITER making him emotional and assertive, rebellious and expansive.

At the time of his indictment, MARS and PLUTO (the two ruling planets of relentless SCORPIO) were at odds with each other. For Libby, transiting MARS was squaring his PLUTO and transiting PLUTO was semi-square his MARS. An irresistible force collided with an immovable object.

Three additional astrological connections in his Progressed chart indicate complications. First, VENUS (progressed to 15 degrees LIBRA) was conjunct his natal NEPTUNE. A negative expression of this conjunction is confusion, deception, possibly even misplaced loyalty. Secondly, the potential hubris of his LEO SUN opposition had grown closer over time. JUPITER had Retrograded closer to the opposition the his LEO SUN, increasing a tendency to overreach or display more hubris. JUPITER'S domain does include the courts and the law. Lastly, Libby's Progressed MERCURY and JUPITER were in difficult aspect to each other and remain there for another year.

To complete the picture, the Iraq war had been launched when the SUN was at 29 degrees of PISCES, very close to the degrees of Libby's NODES. An aspect to the NODES describes a fateful occurrence. For Libby, it seems to have been his connection to the Iraq war.

Libby's chart has interesting ties to the charts of Vice President Cheney, to President Bush, and to the special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. We'll look at these connections in future articles.
