MARS IN TAURUS FOR SIX MONTHS
Steady Action and a Slow Burn
MARS entered the sign of TAURUS July 29 where it will remain
until February 18, 2006. During that period, MARS will be
RETROGRADE (in apparent backward motion) from October 1st
until December 10th. MARS is also closer to the earth now
than usual. The combination of the above factors magnifies
MARS’ importance.
MARS
is the warrior planet, the planet of fiery action, of sexual
initiative. TAURUS is a VENUS ruled sign, and emphasizes the
pleasures of life, beauty, sensuality, material resources
and stability. The impetuosity of MARS is slowed in the sign
of TAURUS but its actions can also be more sustainable. For
example, it’s wonderful combination for a gardener or
horticulturist who seeds the project and then has the patience
to let it develop and grow.
As discussed
in another article,
MARS is turning RETROGRADE in the Progressed chart of the
U.S. When MARS moves RETROGRADE by transit in the sky, it
echoes the same theme. It is not a particularly auspicious
time period for warlike actions. A withdrawal of troops would
be more indicated than increased aggression.
During
the entire period when MARS is in TAURUS, it will be transiting
the 12th house of the U.S. chart (view
chart). Since the 12th house represents secrets and action
behind the scenes, it will probably be especially hard to
extract information from the Bush Administration, and even
more so during the RETROGRADE period.
Any planet
is most powerful when it STATIONS (appears to remain motionless
in the sky). MARS’ RETROGRADE STATION on October 1st
is at 23 degrees of TAURUS. This is exactly on October 1st
and conjoins Israel’s SUN (view
chart) so one would expect extra activity of a martial
or aggressive nature to occur. Leaders with the SUN in TAURUS,
such as Tony Blair, may be unusually assertive as MARS starts
into TAURUS but get bogged down or blocked during the RETROGRADE
period and then re-activate more successfully at the DIRECT
station in December.
MARS
is a "trigger" planet activating broader astrological
configurations. MARS STATIONS DIRECT on December 10th at 8
degrees of TAURUS. Anger and resentments built up during the
RETROGRADE period are apt to be released at this time.
Because
MARS will also SQUARE the JUPITER-NEPTUNE conjunction at 8
LEO in the chart of the Middle East Mandate (view
chart), headlines about the Middle East may be more explosive
than ever. This is, of course, is only one pattern of connections
which may be especially activated at that time. Some additional

- MARS
will SQUARE the U.S. NODES.
Astrological
lore claims that it is better not to start a sexual love affair
or a war when MARS is RETROGRADE, because in either case,
the outcome will not be what you desire. Avoid the RETROGRADE
period, if you can, to consummate a relationship, and if there’s
going to be a fight, let it be the other guy who starts it.
During the RETROGRADE period, stubborn attitudes increase
and resentments build.
For everyone,
an attitude of caution and determination is beneficial during
the period when MARS is in TAURUS. During the RETROGRADE period,
expect actions to be harder to achieve. Slow and steady perseverance
will win the day.
