PAKISTAN: PIVOTAL COUNTRY
Bush Negotiating under Volatile Aspects

President Bush starts his trip to India and Pakistan this Tuesday, February 28 on a NEW MOON conjunct URANUS, showing a time of extreme volatility. In the middle of a domestic uproar over Port Security and other domestic trials, Bush presses forward with his international agenda. His first stop will be in New Delhi, where he has much to discuss. However, this article focuses on current pressures in Pakistan.

Pakistan became an independent state on August 15, 1947 at midnight in Karachi (view chart). The strength of the country’s chart is shown in a number of ways. The SUN is in its own sign of LEO and the MOON is in its own sign of CANCER, signatures of the “strong leader” and an emotional populace.

Pakistan has 5 out of 10 planets in FIRE signs and 6 out of 10 planets in FIXED signs. The FIXED FIRE combination emphasizes the LEO quality – proud, determined and steadfast, potentially either expansive and generous or overbearing and arrogant. Also with FIXED SIGN emphasis, changes may be slow to come but drastic when they do occur.

SATURN (task master planet) will be transiting all Pakistan’s LEO planets over the next two years. This will be a time of major reckoning. Right now SATURN is conjoining MERCURY (media and communications) as well as Progressed MARS (aggression and war). This shows that Musharraf is under extreme pressure as he deals with a war of propaganda. He is struggling between international and domestic pressures.

When we look at the multiple connections between Pakistan and the U.S., several are notable. Number 1: Transiting SATURN is conjoining President Bush’s ASCENDANT (persona), showing how critical this situation is to him personally.

Number 2: there is a striking confluence of planets in the charts of the U.S. and Pakistan at exactly 18 degrees of LIBRA:

  • President Bush’s Natal JUPITER (philosophy and foreign affairs).
  • U.S. Progressed MARS (aggression and war)
  • Pakistan’s Progressed SUN (basic identity)

MARS (U.S. Progressed) now Retrograde, shows Americans’ desire to withdraw military forces and concentrate its energies to protect its own territory. However, with Pakistan’s Progressed SUN at 18 LIBRA, it shows we remain entangled.

It looks as though a time of confusion and anxiety will continue because Transiting NEPTUNE stressfully aspects many of Pakistan’s planets (JUPITER in SCORPIO and its many planets in LEO).

Because Pakistan is a critical ally in the war on terror and borders both Iran and Afghanistan, Bush’s trip is pivotal. However, in the short term MERCURY will be Retrograde from March 3rd – March 26th. Any topics discussed during this time will likely be re-negotiated and revised.
