Pluto goes into Capricorn (2008-2024)

The planet Pluto brings deep transformation to the areas of life represented by each sign it passes through, and marks the shifting perspectives and priorities of successive generations. Pluto is currently in Sagittarius (1995-2008) and we are individually, and as a culture, preparing for Pluto in Capricorn (2008-2024). We are searching for a new base of values that after 2008 will recreate our institutional structures.

Pluto takes 248 years to complete its passage through all twelve zodiac signs. The Declaration of Independence (view U.S. chart) was signed in 1776, as Pluto nearly completed its transit through Capricorn. Pluto will return to Capricorn in 2008, when it will complete its first cycle and return to its original sign in America's chart.

With Pluto currently in Sagittarius, all the conceptual underpinnings are being challenged, resulting in a gradual transformation of values. We are trying to integrate the philosophical and intellectual sides of ourselves with our daily lives. In doing this, we need to integrate the extraordinary variety of the innovations that have occurred in the 20th century.

America has been challenged in so many ways. including by its changing demographics - an ethnic mÈlange and no longer a melting pot - and by the depersonalizations of the computer age.

Pluto in Capricorn symbolizes a period of re-structuring, the re-formation of society's rules and institutions. Pluto in Capricorn will demand that boundaries and limits be imposed and enforced. By 2008, we will have completed one full national cycle of growth and power. The ideals of America, the promise of Manifest Destiny and the desire for the liberty for all, will still beckon us while we are challenged in so many ways. Pluto and Sagittarius can empower our leaders to be ready to transform our society to meet the opportunities in 2008 of Pluto in Capricorn.
